I worked with him at Philips for many years and there wasn't a more caring person that I have ever met. He always had a smile and always cared about others. He will be missed. He was so smart about so many things. He could answer many questions about so many things and always in a sincere and friendly manner.

I appreciate everything Franz did for me over the years. He had a big heart to share with all.
He leaves behind large steps to fill by those who knew him. Most of all, his kindness to others.

I am so sad to hear of Franz’s passing and am sending my love and condolences to the family. While working at SOCM, I was privileged to be able to spend quite a lot of time with Franz, traveling to board meetings, participating in the anti-racism work, and fighting the good fight all across this state. Franz has one of the most beautiful and gentle souls I have ever had the privilege to meet. I will miss him dearly.

Like others, I had been thinking of Franz and Annelise just recently. Folks like them, come around in your mind on a regular basis. I had not talked to Franz since early 2018. I would call and just say hello. He would not say much but it was good to check in. We had been to a lot of meetings together.
I understand that his dementia was rough on the family and I am so sorry for that. Crippling dementia and Alzheimers can be so ugly. It isn't fair to Franz nor his loved ones who were trying to care for him.
He left such a warm, helping affect on us and that is the memory I will always have. Now for sure, he could argue with the best of them when he believed in something. His kindness and giving nature was a treat to experience. I hope Annelise will have a more gentle remaining part of her life. I hope that his Daughter and grandson will be able to remember his warmth and kindness and giving nature.

Dear Annelise and other family members,
I just learned of Franz's death from an email from Linda Cowan at SOCM. One is always shocked by the death of a friend and a very good man, especially someone not seen for a while. I didn't know Franz was ill or would have visited, if appropriate. As you know, Annelise, I worked for SOCM for 35 years and probably for the last 20 years or more of my work, that meant working with Franz, one of the most committed and active of the many active SOCM members.
Franz was an eager volunteer, specializing in finances and serving as SOCM treasurer, but active in so many other aspects of SOCM's work - with toxics, with the Roane county chapter, with strategic planning for SOCM's future, with anti-racism work. You could count on Franz being at every annual leadership retreat, serving in a number of capacities on the Board, attending every annual Picnic, participating in most lobbying trips to the state legislature.
I know Franz was also very active in his church, in habitat for humanity, and in helping with fix up or construction or other hands on helping of numerous individuals who were so grateful for his help. Franz was a dedicated activist, a fighter for justice, and the quintessential good Samaritan. Franz truly fought the good fight, ran the race, and, I'm sure, is blessed with his reward.
All my love to you, Annelise. I am so sorry for your loss, which is also a loss for so many others. I hope if you organize a memorial for Franz some time in the future, that you'll let me know.
Much love,
Mo (Maureen O'Connell)

So sorry for your loss. I knew Franz from SOCM but haven't seen him for several years since I stopped being on the Board. He was an anchor for SOCM in his time and I enjoyed many hours of time riding with him to meetings and seeing him ay SOCM events. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
